From #2144:
After Installation of Server 2008 X64 is complete and user is at desktop, the next time the VM reboots or reloads the VM and Srv08 Crashes and can cause a BugCheck? condition (BSOD)

When booting in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking and Safe Mode with command prompt, both Windows Vista and Server 2008 works normally.
comment:6 Changed 14 years ago by viniciuscanto
I've found a workaround: shutdown guest, disable network cards, boot again in Safe Mode, restart guest.
comment:7 Changed 14 years ago by AltGr
Unfortunately, the workaround from viniciuscanto is not working for me. Booting in Safe Mode works ok, but the next time the VM is booting in normal mode with connected network card i get the next Guru Meditation error.
Besides, some of the software i try to check out using VirtualBox (e.g. Windows Essential Server) requires a working network connection during the OS-Setup.

I've had the same problem [Guru Meditation 1103 (VINF_EM_DBG_HYPER_ASSERTION)], but I've installed Windows 2008 32-bit without issue and it's running without problem. I have logfile of the x64 crash available if wanted (if a second is desired). Also have log files of the (working) 32-bit for comparison (if it helps in anyway).

I had the same problem with Ubuntu 2.6.24-generic 64 bits kernel as host and Windows 2008 64 bits as guest.

Try again with 2.0.4 and attach a new log please. Previously the error didn't log the relevant information.
comment:11 Changed 14 years ago by AltGr
I tried 2.0.4 but no change, EXACTLY the same problem:
- Installation of Vista x64 without Problem
- After first boot, just before the login screen appears -> Crash/Guru Meditation
new logfile is attached.

Same problem/crash with Windows Server 2008 x64 Enterprise!!
Logfile is attached.
P.S.: Can the owner please change the version to 2.0.4 and change the title to "...with Vista X64/Windows 2008 X64..."?

Host: Vista64 on HP Laptop 8510p with 4GB RAM and Intel CPU T9300
Guest: Windows Server 2008 Standard 64bit
Log and screenshots attached.

#2249 has been marked as a duplicate (most likely the same problem, but need a confirmation with 2.0.4)

The fix at http://www.virtualbox.org/download/testcase/Vista64fix.zip cures the problem for me. Replace the files in your VirtualBox directory with the ones in the zip file.

The fix did not work for me. Attaching log and screenshot.
comment:20 Changed 14 years ago by sandervl73
staskorz: you are still using the old code. how did you install the fix? Note that 2.0.4 accidentally gets installed in the 'Program Files (x86)' directory.
comment:21 Changed 14 years ago by staskorz
Sorry, my mistake. Works now. Thanks a lot!!!
comment:22 Changed 14 years ago by staskorz
Sorry again. Unfortunately it still crashes from time to time, usually right after boot.
comment:23 Changed 14 years ago by sandervl73
That's a different guru meditation. Same problem, but a different cause.
comment:24 Changed 14 years ago by sandervl73
I've uploaded new binaries to the same place as before. These won't fix your new problem, but will put more information in VBox.log. Could you retry with those binaries and upload another log for a failed session? Thanks a lot!

Thanks for ypur support in IRC yesterday, the fix from sandervl73 did work for me, although i said it didnt. I just saw later that i didn't extract the files properly
comment:26 Changed 14 years ago by staskorz
sandervl73: should I open a ticket for this?
comment:27 Changed 14 years ago by sandervl73
staskorz: no need. I'll look at your problem later today or tomorrow.

It is running Xubuntu 8.10 64bit on Vista 64bit with Vista64fix.zip applied. Same problem as reported by user

Any updates on this bug? You think it might make it to 2.0.6 release? What is the ETA if possible? Please let me know if you need any additional information or even test beta since this one is quite important to me :)
Thank you

I have what appears to be the same problem installing Windows Server 2008 x64 (Standard) or (Enterprise) full installation. The host is Linux (gentoo, kernel 2.6.25-gentoo-r7). The problem occurs for both the OSE and non-OSE version of VirtualBox. I have attached the VBox.log file (VBox.log.3).
Thanks

staskorz: the new guru meditation is also fixed now. Wait a bit for the next release.

I've tested VirtualBox 2.0.6 and it doesn't crash anymore. Thanks everybody!
