Installing VBox with bridging adapter kills host's physical interface's TCP/IP functionality — at Initial Version

Description
Apparently something changed between 3.1.0 and 3.1.4 (skipped 3.1.2). Bridging is now done as a NIC component/protocol instead of an additional driver for each NIC.
Unfortunately, after installing, TCP/IP of the host (one physical adapter) stops working.
The NIC doesn't list under ipconfig, trying to repair the interface by using windows' repair functionality informs me that TCP/IP is not enabled (which it is).
Uninstalling virtualbox and rebooting restores TCP/IP functionality.
