Host OS (OS X 10.6) Kernel Panic on FreeBSD 8 boot

Reported by: Matthias Rampke Owned by:
Component: other Version: VirtualBox 3.0.10
Keywords: panic, freebsd Cc:
Guest type: BSD Host type: Mac OS X

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

When booting FreeBSD 8.0-RC2 in VirtualBox 3.0.10 with ACPI, it stops loading the kernel saying "ACPI autoload failed - file or folder not found". When selecting boot without ACPI, the host OS (Mac OS X 10.6.1) panics (grey screen of death). This is reproducible and independent of whether VT-x is on or off.

The client is in the process of being upgraded from FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE to 8.0-RC2 (although the same happened with RC1). I will try a clean install soon.

Attached are

  • one VBox.log when trying to boot with ACPI
  • one VBox.log when trying to boot without ACPI
  • the OS X panic report

This does not happen with a newly installed VM, so it appears that the update process went wrong.
