#4283 closed defect (fixed)
Virtual Machine not transferabel to other computer if snapshots exist
Reported by: | martin.runge | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | virtual disk | Version: | VirtualBox 2.2.4 |
Keywords: | Cc: | ||
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Windows |
Description (last modified by )
The Disk snapshots are recorded in the machine configuration xml file and the differential disk images are stored with the machine where specified (global settings->machine storage path). But the Virtual Media Manager keeps its own config file somewhere in "Documents and Settings" or $HOME regardless what was specified as storage location for the virtual machine. This makes transferring of virtual machines nearly impossible as well as backups. They will not work without the correct config file for the virtual media manager as the order of snapshots is specified there.
The assignment of virtual disk filenames and uuid is a property of the virtual machine, not one of the local VirtualBox installation.
- Tried with vmdk images

Fixed long ago by introducing the local media registry for each VM config.
Unfortunately, this problem still exists with 3.2.0
