Cursor Scaling - Mousepointer Integration -> Duplicate of #14366

Reported by: Fritzthecat Owned by:
Component: GUI Version: VirtualBox 6.0.14
Keywords: Mouse big Scaling 200% Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Windows

Description

Host Win10, Scaling 200% 2560 X 1440 = Cursor Scaling normal Guest Win10, Scaling 200% = Cursor Scaling TOO BIG - unusable

After the update from VirtualBox 5 to 6 the Cursor Scaling is broken.

I tried changing the graphics controller from none to Vboxsvga, nothing changed. If I turn off the mouse pointer integration the size is right again but the mouse is shaky then.

Normal working is not possible, I can only downgrade to Virtualbox 5.

What i'm doing wrong ?

The bugtracer is not the place to ask questions, the Forums are...

  1. It's usually better and faster, if issues get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums, a lot more eyes there. More than 95% of the issues are resolved in the forums, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of. For example, yours is most probably not a bug and someone from the developers has to deal with it and close it as "Invalid".

Plus a discussion and analysis on the bug tracker is going to help me, is going to help you, and potentially a future drive-by user or two. Not so in the forums, many more tend to benefit...

  1. You were supposed to follow these steps when you filed the bug, and provide a VBox.log:

Attach a (full) log file ("Machine" menu/"Show Log" in the main VirtualBox Manager window) straight away to save time for you and for us. The log file contains a lot of useful information about both the host and the guest systems as well as information about what happened during a particular machine run. Please do not cut and paste it.

Please, open a new thread in the VirtualBox on Windows Hosts section of the forums. Please be sure to mention that you came from the bug tracker and include the ticket number.

New Installation

@socratis:

First of all, English is not my native language, i hope the translator works well.

I first searched in the forum but unfortunately found nothing. To 2: I also wanted to attach the complete log, but unfortunately i made a mistake, sorry.

I tried a new installation, unfortunately with the same mouse result. I now also attached this log.

If the forum is the better first-place with good resonance, i take up your suggestion of course, thank you.

Is it a bug or not? :) I use normal settings, on two different computers, and since version 6 my mouse pointer is too big. In the update procedure and also in the "new installation". Well then, for me a bug.

This definitely must be a bug. I have same problem on my 4K display... My workaround is to set the scale to 125% on host and after the start of guest revert back to whatever it was before...

Or try VirtualBox 5, it works perfectly for me there. This issues exists for years now :( And it's quite sad in the time of hdpi displays...

More that well! :)

I first searched in the forum but unfortunately found nothing.

As 'johny5v' pointed out, there are tickets #18521 and #14366, which this ticket is a [Duplicate] of (the latter).

I tried a new installation, unfortunately with the same mouse result.

Yes, if the settings are the same you're going to get the same results. You know what they say about "Insanity"?

Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results ;)

Is it a bug or not?

Looks like it. I've never seen it because I never change the scaling either on the Host or the Guest.

What I *do* change however is the "VirtualBox Preferences" » "Display" » "Scale Factor" and set that to 200% for my HiDPI monitor(s). After that all VMs are running as their maker intended.

Try my workaround above...

That's because VirtualBox < 6.0.0 was handling HiDPI differently. The "Scale Factor" didn't exist as a concept back then for example...

Closing the ticket as a [Duplicate] of #14366.
