BSOD on Win7x64 host — at Version 6

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

I've had VirtualBox 4.08 up and running for a while, but hadn't used it in about a two weeks? Then today I get a BSOD when the application is first launched. So, I upgraded to 4.0.10, but no joy. Analysis of the mini dump suggests that it is the VirtualBox USB Monitor Driver. So, I uninstalled, and reinstalled without USB support... but it crashed again!

I'm on a Dell Latitude XT2 with Win7x64. I can't recall all of the changes that might have occured to my system since last the last time it ran correctly.

Attached is the mini dump file

The minudump you attached shows VBoxUSBMon is the faulting driver. Did you get it with VBox installed w/o USB support?
The USB issues you saw should be fixed with the next major release.

Well, when I had it installed with USB support, the crash dump just indicated a "naked" ntoskrnl.exe fault.

Good to hear that you guys are working it!

Uh... I mean't to say "with out USB support".

So, just to clarify... when I had the full install, the crash dump indicated the VBoxUSBMon driver. When I did the install without USB, I still got a crash, but this time the crash dump indicated ntoskrnl.

Please attach the minidump for ntoskrnl crash here as well.

Ah ha!

The plot thickens... The problem only occurs when my Dell Latitude XT2 is attached to the "dock" (actually it's called a Media Slice, but I use it as a dock).

I'm thinking we can close this ticket...
