ExtPack installed, Remote Desktop Extension is not available

Reported by: Michał Sawicz Owned by:
Component: RDP Version: VirtualBox 4.0.2
Keywords: vrdp Cc:
Guest type: other Host type: Linux

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

Regardless of installing the extension pack, I can't get VRDE to work, the logs report:

VRDE: VirtualBox Remote Desktop Extension is not available.

ExtPack is installed:

# ls /opt/VirtualBox/ExtensionPacks/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack/
darwin.amd64 ExtPack-license.html ExtPack-license.txt ExtPack.signature linux.amd64 PXE-Intel.rom solaris.x86 win.x86
darwin.x86 ExtPack-license.rtf ExtPack.manifest ExtPack.xml linux.x86 solaris.amd64 win.amd64

That's Debian 6.0 with VBox installed from either packages or the .run script.

Please find the log file and .vbox file attached.

For some reason it required a reboot.

Can't reproduce. If I start a VM without the extension pack installed the VRDE server is indeed not usable. But then I terminate the VM, install the extension pack, restart the VM and this time the VM has the VRDE server enabled. Did you stop the VM after you installed the extension pack?

comment:3 by Michał Sawicz, 14 years ago

Yes I have restarted the vm, restarted vboxdrv and vboxweb-service to no avail. I had to reboot the host and now it's fine.

comment:4 by Frank Mehnert, 14 years ago

Hmm. The settings in your .vbox file show that VRDE is disabled (<RemoteDisplay enabled="false"...)

comment:5 by Michał Sawicz, 14 years ago

As soon as I rebooted, the "Remote Display" tab was available, without any other ingerence from me. So I suppose this setting is reset to false unless VRDP is available.

Absolutely the same is in VBox 4.2.14.

Description: modified (diff)

Please attach the complete VBox.log files from a 4.1.26 session as well as from a 4.2.14 session. My guess is that you mix the extension packs.

comment:9 by Jaga, 11 years ago

I have attached logs for the 4.1.26 session. For 4.2.14 will attach now.

I am not mixing extension packs, I have checked it several times.
