#7764 closed defect (fixed)

Guest system stuck in IOWAIT for tens of seconds periodically

Reported by: Peter Waller Owned by:
Component: virtual disk Version: VirtualBox 3.2.10
Keywords: fsync IOWAIT Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description (last modified by aeichner)

My experience using VirtualBox is significantly degraded because many times a day (sometimes more often than others), the whole virtual machine (or individual programs) will freeze, sometimes for as long a as a minute. In the system monitor I could see that the system was in IOWAIT, so I ran latencytop.

I have attached a screenshot for one of the shorter freezes, but I have seen the wait as long as 45,000 seconds.

Replying to pwaller:

Typo: I meant milliseconds here.

I should also have mentioned the guest system is, and the guest is Windows 7.

$ uname -srvmpio Linux 2.6.35-23-generic # 40-Ubuntu SMP Wed Nov 17 22:14:33 UTC 2010 x86_64 unknown unknown GNU/Linux
