"fn + return = Insert" does not work for host = mac

Reported by: ecterrab Owned by:
Component: guest additions Version: VirtualBox 3.0.8
Keywords: "fn + return", insert Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Mac OS X

Description (last modified by aeichner) (diff)

Host: macnotebook pro running snow leopard up-to-date. VirtualBox version: 3.0.8. Guest: windows XP.

According to the mac documentation, in the mac keyboards of notebooks pressing "fn + return" produces "insert". That works well within the mac and also running windows via bootcamp. But when running it within VirtualBox the combination fn + return" results in "return", not insert. Expected: pressing the combination of keys "fn + return" produces "insert".

I can confirm with the following combination:

MacBookPro 2011 - early
MacOSX Lion (host)
VirtualBox 4.1.2 r73507
Ubuntu 11.04 (guest)

Ctrl + Return key combo does not produce Insert

  • Can you point me to the documentation where it states that "Fn+Enter=Insert"?
  • Can you point me to a program that you would expect an "Insert" to work and it doesn't?
  • Can you point me to a program in the host that it works?
