#5053 new defect

options that are unavailable should be deselected in addition to being grayed out

Description

In the VirtualBox GUI, it is confusing to have checkboxes that are selected and also grayed out (disabled). This leads some users to think that an option is enabled, and cannot be turned off, instead of the intended meaning of "this is not available on your system".

This is seen for example with settings such as "Enable VT-x/AMD-V", where if hardware virtualization is not available on a system, a shared VM may show up with a checkbox for this setting, but the control is disabled.

I perosnally have been confused in the past with this, but I just saw it again today on the Haiku-OS bug tracker where someone posted that VirtualBox always runs with VT-X/AMD-V since the option is checked and grayed out and cannot be disabled.

Or, another possible feature suggestion is to provide details on that tab of the gui to tell the users that their CPU, bios, <whatever> does not support feature XYZ. This way there would be no doubt as to what a disabled-yet-selected checkbox means.
