Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

Hi ,

I am using VBox for personal use on my 64bit Vista (Home Premium) and VM is Ubuntu 9.04. For internet, I use a Huaweii CDMA USB modem which does not work well with the VBox. If I am connected to the net with the same modem and open VBox - the USB connection drops out and there is no way that I can relaunch the connection while the VBox is ON. I tried to check if Ubuntu is detecting a USB - but that also does not seem to be the case - even after adding a USBFilter etc.

I read somewhere that OSE does not provide USB support and I need to get a CSE which is available for Personal Deployment. The only mean for me to connect to the net is through my USB modem and I am not in any LAN, and I can not leverage on VBox when I try to use the USB modem.

What are the suggestions? Let me know.

Regards, SR

Hi,

I still see the same problem with 3.2.1 -

I am using a USB Modem and if it is connected and I run Virtual box, immediately the connection gets dropped and Windows does not detect the device with Virtual box running, if Virtual box is closed, well the device is detected again.

The latest release is 3.2.0 so I assume you mean this version. Some more questions: Does the connection close when you start the GUI or not before you start a VM? Are you 100% sure that you installed VBox 3.2.0 without any error (sorry for asking this, I want to be sure here)?

Sorry about the wrong version indicated - it is 3.2.0 r61806 (fresh download).

  1. It closes when I start Virtual Box GUI itself. It gets dropped there (shows device disconnected status) and it gets connected once I remove the device physically from USB Port - also if I go to Devices Tab once a VM is opened I could see the Device listed and if I click on that device it pops out an error - Do you want to see logs/screenshots of the exact issue?
  1. I did not notice any error (there was no such pop-up) - is there any install log which I can check to validate this?
