Crash when starting klipper (KDE clipboard utility)

Reported by: Robin Green Owned by:
Component: clipboard Version: VirtualBox 2.2.2
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Mac OS X

Description

I use KDE in my Linux guest, and KDE has a clipboard utility called klipper which runs in the system tray and remembers the last 10 or so items on the clipboard(s). I had quit klipper because I was copy-pasting some sensitive data. When I re-ran klipper, VirtualBox crashed.

Of course I cannot be sure that klipper triggered this crash, but it seems likely since it was a crash in the VirtualBox clipboard code.

This is with VirtualBox 2.2.2_OSE.

Is this reproducible?

I have had at least two crashes in the last week or so (version 2.2.2 on Mac OS X host with Ubuntu 8.04 guest) which seem to have occurred in the same place as the crash referred to above:

Thread 8 Crashed:
0 VBoxSharedClipboard.dylib 0x18976d27 vboxClipboardUtf16GetLinSize(
unsigned short*, unsigned long, unsigned long*) + 39

2 VBoxSharedClipboard.dylib 0x18976903 vboxClipboardWriteData(_VBOXC

9 libSystem.B.dylib 0x93084b12 thread_start + 34

I have noticed the clipboard stop working on occasion. But these crashes have both occurred when I've tried to switch users in Ubuntu.

Interesting. Are you using the default Ubuntu desktop environment (GNOME), or are you using KDE?

I've also experienced multiple crashes in what appears to be the same clipboard code, though I haven't been able to positively correlate the crashes with any particular action. I'm running VirtualBox 2.2.2 (non-OSE), with an Ubuntu 9.04 guest on Mac OS 10.4.11. I cannot reliably reproduce the crash, though it does happen randomly perhaps every other day.

Can people experiencing these crashes please test version 3.0.4 to see if they still occur there?

Unfortunately, I think I just experienced this same crash again. I've attached my logs. I'm running VirtualBox 3.0.4 r50677, non-OSE, on Mac OS 10.6.0. The crash seemed to happen upon switching to VirtualBox after it had been inactive (but running) for a while. I got the spinning beachball for a few seconds, and then it crashed.
