Performance problems for 2.1.4, OS X host, Win XP guest

Description

Hi,

This ticket is to continue discussion of Windows performance problems from this forum thread, and ticket #3172.

Having tried 2.1.2, then downgraded to 2.1.0 as users recommended in the thread, I just upgraded to 2.1.4 and I have worse performance problems than ever. As soon as I boot the Windows VM, CPU Utilization hits at 100% and stays there so that within a minute or two my machine's fan is howling. I uninstalled the 2.1.0 Guest Additions and the problem remains just as bad.

Is this a configuration problem of some sort? I've tried changing various settings but that doesn't seem to have much effect on the problem.
