Host Mac OS X: Mouse wheel scrolls in guest have affect on host

Reported by: Harald Stuebinger Owned by:
Component: GUI Version: VirtualBox 2.1.2
Keywords: mouse wheel Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Mac OS X

Description (last modified by aeichner)

Host: Mac OS X Leopard Guest: Ubuntu x64 Machine: Mac Mini Intel Core2Duo Logitech Mouse G4

The GuestAdditions are installed on Ubuntu. Guest Windows is maximized (full screen). When I scroll with the mouse wheel e.g. in firefox, mouse wheel events are applied to the firefox window in the guest (Okay). However, the host seems to be affected thereby (Not okay). When I scroll, the host shows shortly the Dock and the Menu of Virtualbox (about 1 second). Then, it disappears. As when the mouse wheel events are forwarded to the host in addition. But scrolling in the guest is possible in principle.

I observed this only with Ubuntu. On Windows Vista is it not observable. So seems to be a problem of the guestadditions???

Can you give this a try with a Ubuntu guest without Additions? You could try the Ubuntu live CD for instance.

I have to correct me, I is also reproducible with Linux openSuse 11.1 x64, but harder to reproduce. It happens not on every mouse wheel tick. It seems to happen if many mouse wheel events are in the queue. For instance, when scrolling a long HTML page in a browser window.

Also, I observed sometimes when scroll very fast in a long page that the cursor suddenly jumps to the upper left corner on the the screen.

I will attach a video that shows what happening.

Best regards.

Also reproducible with Debian Linux. Seems to be reproducible with all Linux guests.

To be more precise of the behavior: I opened a text editor on the guest with text to scroll. Thereby, the cursor icon for text edit is shown. When I scroll in the text editor fast, the cursor icon becomes an arrow. Seems that the context of the guest is left and now the host has input focus for the mouse. When I scroll further with the mouse wheel, the hidden dock and the apple menu on top is shown shortly of the host. When I moved the mouse position a little bit, the guest becomes again the input focus and the cursor icon changes to the text editor context.
