Windows (XP) guest hangs at startup on Linux Host

Description

A newly installed Virtual Box 7.0.0 (virtualbox-7.0_7.0.0-153978~Ubuntu~jammy_amd64.deb) on fresh lubuntu-22.04.1.

When booting my old WinXP VM, I only see black screen - no messages or Windows startup animations.

But pressing F keys allowed me to chose Windows boot options. Booting in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking was successful. But very slow (in Safe Mode you can see how .dll and .sys files are loaded very slowly one by one).

I experimented with disabling / enabling Hyper V, display 3D acceleration, etc - nothing helps. Normal Windows boot still shows just black screen. I tried waiting for very long time (thinking it may be just slowness).

Note, CPU is constantly busy by the Virtual Box processes, so it is doing something.

Finally, removed tbe virtualbox 7.0.0 and installed virtualbox-6.1_6.1.40-154048~Ubuntu~jammy_amd64.deb. Everything works OK, as it always used to be for that VM on my previous Linux.

Hi antonv,

This ticket is a duplicate of #21167. Please install VirtualBox Extension Pack. Issue should be gone after this. Fix will be a part of VBox 7.0.2.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
