#19928 new defect

VirtualBox hangs on shutdown

Description

I am experiencing a similar problem as described in https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19085

I found that topic while searching for "End of Guest state at power off", which is the last line of VBox.log of the machine I just shut down.

The cli reports the VM is still running and the GUI freezes when selecting this VM.

I notice the following processes running when this happens:

1081 ? 00:00:00 iprt-VBoxWQueue 1085 ? 00:00:00 iprt-VBoxTscThr 3530 ? 00:00:49 VBoxXPCOMIPCD 3536 ? 00:02:05 VBoxSVC

12694 ? 00:29:30 VBoxHeadless

The problem occurs in different versions of VirtualBox, at least 6.0 and 6.1.

I did not try yet to turn off VT-x/AMD-V acceleration, but will do after reboot.

I will save append the log in the current state.

In the VM configuration, check System > Acceleration > Enable Nested Paging, which should speed up your VM considerably. Does your problem persist?
