hey there you should add https://chat.reactos.org/files/9i5rni563fng3rrzwnxu39tkac/public?h=oEqFnJf1KjOxQvh2hCjHqLfF933wh8ddiH74B0NUIKA to the bug report you made to VirtualBox's bug tracker

and also rename its title to Microsoft's AC97 Sample Driver has garbled audio in VirtualBox 5.x and up

Here's how to reproduce the issue:

  1. Apply the AC97 import and Portcls Fix PRs to the latest master of ReactOS.
  2. Compile it using ROSBE.
  3. Mount the bootcd.iso and install it.
  4. Download https://www.cavestory.org/downloads/cavestoryen.zip and extract it to the VM's disk image that has been mounted as a drive letter.
  5. Boot into the ReactOS VM.
  6. Run the OrgView.exe that is included with the files that were extracted.
  7. Click Music 1 and then Access.

It seems to be happening because VirtualBox doesn't like the small buffer size used by WavePCI based audio drivers.
