Same error here. I'm using Windows XP SP2 on VirtualBox 1.6.2, and I can't access shared folders. I was able to access shared folders with version 1.5.4 using navigation bar into explorer file system browser. I've tried several ways with version 1.6.2 withot success. Please fix the bug, shared folders are an important feature!

Thanks in advance.

False positive! Solved here. I've installed twice Guest Additions, that's it.

First time emulated hardware works fine but I wasn't able to access shared folders. Installing again Guest Additions, shared folders become accessible. I don't know why that, I hope it can be useful for someone.

Today I confirmed that this is still an issue in version 1.6.4. I upgraded my Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 host to VB 1.6.4. On an existing WinXP Pro virtual client, I upgraded guest additions to 1.6.4. When I was unable to get shared folders to work, I created a new virtual machine and installed fresh copies of Windows XP and GA 1.6.4. Everything worked except for shared folders. I tried a number of suggestions, including re-installing guest additions, but nothing helped until I followed a suggestion on another thread. I removed GA 1.6.4 and replaced it with GA 1.6.0. Shared folders and all other features seem to be working okay. I then downgraded to GA 1.6.0 on the WinXP Pro virtual client and it also works.

I'm unable to access shared folders as well. My setup: VB: 1.6.4-33808_Ubuntu_hardy; GA: 1.6.4r33808

I can only see the VirtualBox network folder and it is empty.

Here are some relevant entries from the log file:

Forgot to mention: Host = Ubuntu 8.04, Guest = Windows XP SP2 (from physical partition)

In a few days a new version of VirtualBox will be available. Please try again with the new Guest Additions then.
