Cannot add storage devices

Reported by: Andrei21us Owned by:

Guest type: all Host type: Windows

Description

I encounter a issue with adding virtual disks.

If you want to add a hard disk to a storage controller(tested ide and sata) using the button in the lower half Virtualbox crashes. If you add the hard disk using the floating button that show up when hovering over the the storage controller everything works as expected

I can't reproduce it on a freshly installed Win7-64, nor a freshly installed Win10-64, both up-to-date. Which means that something is wrong with your host.

We've seen reports about this when there were "namespaces" installed in Windows, or there were active network connections to Windows shares. And it seems to be a Qt problem, the library used for the GUI part. Do you have any additions to your Windows Explorer such as the two mentioned above?

"Namespacs" are additional tools, usually installed by Bluetooth devices, phones, etc. They show up in the left-hand-side of a Windows Explorer, when the Tree is shown.

BTW, it's usually better and faster, if issues get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums, a lot more eyes there. More than 95% of the issues are resolved in the forums, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of. For example, yours is most probably not a bug and someone from the developers has to deal with it and close it as "Invalid".

Plus a discussion and analysis on the bug tracker is going to help you, me, and potentially a future drive-by user or two. Not so in the forums, many more tend to benefit...

Also, you were supposed to follow these steps when you filed the bug, and provide a VBox.log:

Attach a (full) log file ("Machine" menu/"Show Log" in the main VirtualBox Manager window) straight away to save time for you and for us. The log file contains a lot of useful information about both the host and the guest systems as well as information about what happened during a particular machine run. Please do not cut and paste it.

No response, closing. Please reopen if still an issue with a recent VirtualBox release and attach a VBoxSVC.log and the selectorwindow.log.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
