#18522 new defect

Audio transmitted with the VBox Remote Display server sounds chopped and pitched

Reported by: EsbenS Owned by:
Component: audio Version: VirtualBox 6.0.4
Keywords: RDP, sound Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description

Audio generated in a Linux guest on a Windows 7 host can be transmitted via the VBox Remote Display server, and is received with a Windows 10 Remote Desktop client. (This was not possible in earlier versions of VBox, I believe). However, the sound that is played back on the Remote Desktop client (Windows 10) sounds 'chopped'. Moreover, the sound is seemingly transmitted or played back with a wrong samplerate, i.e. the pitch is considerably higher than of the sound on the Linux guest.

Have the same situation on a headless setup. Check https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=100547. In debugging mode, the guest platform produces a correct .wav output. Using a Windows 10 RDP client with 2 different RDP clients but the same issue with both clients.

Sound from guest sounds high pitched and choppy on the end-user side. Also chopping when playing youtube or vlc on the guest machine (windows 10, but seems to be OK. See forum post)
