#18509 closed defect (duplicate)

Consistent exception breakpoint when restoring freshly 32bit XP saved state

Description

This is a potential duplicate of #18331

Since version 5.2.x (I unfortunately do not have the version it started at recorded), and continuing through to version 6.0.4 (latest version), closing the vbox windows and selecting the option to save the state, then restarting the VM as soon as possible, results in an exception breakpoint. This can be consistently replicated.

The restore progress bar will reach 97% before this exception occurs.

The log shows:

00:00:06.316083 Expression: !VMCPU_FF_IS_SET(pVCpu, VMCPU_FF_INTERRUPT_PIC)
00:00:06.316084 Location : F:\tinderbox\win-6.0\src\VBox\VMM\VMMR3\PDM.cpp(1006) int __cdecl pdmR3LoadExec(struct VM *,struct SSMHANDLE *,unsigned int, unsigned int)

This is with a 32 bit windows xp guest on a 64 bit windows 10 (1809) host.

Full logs are attached.

More searching had me find #18265's IO APIC suggestion. Having enabled this from a clean shutdown, then re-attempting the shutdown-with-snapshot/restore cycle, unfortunately nothing changed.

I will also add that this VM origianted as a clone from one of my colleague's. That clone also does not have IO APIC enabled, but CAN restore snapshots without problem.

Replying to ScottDCostcutter:

This is a potential duplicate of #18331

Just out of curiosity... If your opening sentence is "This is a potential duplicate...", then why didn't you simply comment on the original and you elected to create yet another [Duplicate]?
