When Guest OS Struggles VM Crashes because of vmmDevHeartbeatFlatlinedTimer

Reported by: Kaplan Owned by:
Component: VMM Version: VirtualBox 5.2.0
Keywords: vmmDevHeartbeatFlatlinedTimer Cc:
Guest type: other Host type: Mac OS X

Description

With no obvious evidence, 20%-30% times the virtual machine crashes.

I sometimes push hard on the VM but it does not guarantee the crash.

Making a search I found similar bugs as:

I receieve following error and VM crashes according to the log files:

VMMDev: vmmDevHeartbeatFlatlinedTimer: Guest seems to be unresponsive. Last heartbeat received 4 seconds ago

The only thing that I can think of is some peaks in VM CPU may cause Heartbeat to be "flatlined" but it strange that while using the machine I don't feel "4 seconds of no responsiveness".

Attached you can also find a couple of log files from crashes.

The problem can be because of some other thing than vmmDevHeartbeatFlatlinedTimer.

The log named VBox.log.2.1 does not have that flag.
