Crashes are guaranteed shortly after VM start.

A VBox.log.zip would definitely help. Actually if you could attach two 1) full-screen and 2) windowed mode, it could help a lot more.

Well, in attempting to reproduce this for a log file, it is no longer happening. The crashes were happening for every launch until I switched from Full Screen mode to windowed mode. Now that I switched back to full screen mode, the crashes are no longer happening.

Bug just reared its head again. I'm attaching a zip of the requested VBox.log files.

Might be related to the AC'97 problem in #16959. Could you verify if the latest test build fixed your problem?

I use this VM for work a lot, so don't want to rock the boat with a test build. I looked at the linked tracker item, and have disabled sound in my VM, which I don't use anyway. If the crash ever happens in full screen again, then I'll let you know.

Test builds are not that scary as they sound ;). Think of them as "intermediate" builds in between the official releases. They're as stable as they can be, stable enough that the developers accept bug reports against them. A small excerpt from the Test Builds page (please read the whole thing):

Regularly installing test builds and using them in your day-to-day work is one of the best ways you can help us improve the VirtualBox user experience.

Even the confirmation that the issue has been resolved is really valuable information...
