A few minutes after restoring saved state, I get the an error similar to the original post, but with different instruction address:

The instruction at "0x30124951" referenced memory at "0x0000000c". The memory could not be "read".

When the error dialog in the host appears, I still have the control of the VM. However, if I try to shut it down regularly in the guest, it freezes in the last shutdown step. Clicking "OK" in the error dialog terminates the process hosting the VM.

Configuration summary:

  • Host: Windows 8.1, Intel i7 4 cores (8 virtual), 16 GB RAM
  • Guest: Windows Server 2012, 4 cores, 10 GB RAM

VBox version is 5.0.8, but it happened also with previous versions.
