Description
vbox 4.3.18 opensuse 13.1 linux 3.11.10-21-desktop x86_64 guest: windows 8.1
The previous version, 4.3.14, worked without a problem. WinXP runs without a problem.
I start the VM. I open the login window, enter the password, and the VM disappears.

Really? A crash is not worth even a note?
Also, this happened with v4.3.16. I have reverted to v4.3.14; Win 8.1 boots and logins work as expected.

Please read the statement at the Bugtracker page again, in particular the second paragraph.
Regarding your problem, three questions:
- From your description it sounds like you can easily reproduce the problem with your guest, is that true?
- Can you still reproduce the core dump if you disable 3D in the VM settings?
- Could you provide a core dump of the crashing process? Sorry, I cannot provide you a server for uploading. Please compress the core dump and contact me via private email at frank _dot_ mehnert _at_ oracle _dot_ com, mail the compressed core dump to me or provide me an URL where I can fetch it from.

Yes.
- Can you still reproduce the core dump if you disable 3D in the VM settings?
No. If I disable 3D graphics in the VM's settings, the VM does not crash.
- Could you provide a core dump of the crashing process?
I do not know where to find the core dump.
I am now running openSUSE v13.2, gnome 3.16, nvidia geforce gt 440 graphics card.

If you can still reproduce the problem with VBox 4.3.20, please read here how to generate a core dump. If you have one, please contact me at frank _dot_ mehnert _at_ oracle _dot_ com.

The issue is worse with 4.3.20: The VM thrashes its disk for while, crashes the desktop, and eventually the host.
I'll see about getting core dump.

The VM no longer crashes in a manner that creates a core dump. Unlike the first time mentioned earlier where the VM thrashed for while, subsequent attempts (3) simply freeze the whole desktop, revert to a text display after a minute, and stop responding to anything.
Disabling 3D graphics allows the VM to function normally.
