Shutting down guest in seamless mode

Reported by: Wand Owned by:

Description

Host: Win7SP1, Guest: WinXPSP3.

Just installed VBox 4.2.14 over 4.2.12 (and upgraded the extensions module and installed the drivers in the guest). I'm using the guest in seamless mode. When i shutdown the guest, before shutting down it exists seamless mode and then shuts down normally. When i start it up again, it starts in normal mode. If i switch to seamless mode and then shut it down, the same thing happens again.

Please note a couple of things.

  1. I have two monitors but i'm using VBox in seamless mode in one monitor only (the main).
  2. This behavior did not occur in v.4.2.12.

I have enabled 2D acceleration (but disabling does not help either). I have not enabled 3D in config, nor installed the driver in the guest.

It seems that this issue persists in v4.3.

This thing is starting to get annoying. It's still here in 4.3.2.

Hoping it can be easily and quickly fixed by someone and just to be clear, i have 2D enabled in config but 3D is disabled. Disabling 2D doesn't change anything though. The VBox driver (2D only, plus all other vbox additions) have been installed in the guest. This issue occurs even when only 1 monitor is connected (the host computer is a laptop).

I'm also attaching a log, hoping it will help.

P.S. Please note, this behavior did not happen in 4.2.12, it started in 4.2.14.

Hi.

First of all, GUI can't startup/boot VM in *seamless* mode directly because requires Guest Additions (GA) support for that to be active. This support become activated right after guest OS login. This was always that way.

In 4.2.12 on VM shutdown GA just remains in seamless mode (it was bug, fixed in 4.2.14). On startup/boot GUI is in normal mode. But it re-enters seamless mode again right after GA loaded.

Seems GA fix in 4.2.14 caused a regression due to which GUI forgets to re-enter seamless mode after GA is loaded. I will analyze that.

Great. Thanks for the reply. An additional thing i noticed just now: if you *restart* the guest machine while in seamless mode, after booting and right after the guest additions are loaded, it automatically re-enters seamless mode (something it doesn't do if the machine was shut-down and then powered-on).

Even though at first i didn't see the issue # in the release notes of 4.3.4, i installed it and it seems that this issue is fixed. I noticed a relevant entry in the release notes later on.

I guess it can be closed now.

Thanks.
