4.2.8 Causes Guest Crash WDDM Driver
Reported by: | real_psyence | Owned by:

Component: | WDDM | Version: | VirtualBox 4.2.8 |
Keywords: | crash opengl shcropengl | Cc:

Description
I have a VM running Windows 7 64-bit on an Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit host, using OpenGL pass-through with the WDDM drivers. I recently enabled Aero to verify the correct driver was installed. It was - and was working well with 4.2.6. Upgraded to 4.2.8 this morning, installed guest additions and upgraded driver in safe mode, VM no longer successfully boots. I get to the login screen and when it goes to launch the desktop (presumably making an OpenGL call via Aero) the VM is aborted.
I get this error on host dmesg:
[ 165.065930] ShCrOpenGL[3109]: segfault at 7fad3c392000 ip 00007fad886e18d4 sp 00007fad54488928 error 6 in libc-2.15.so[7fad8859f000+1b5000]
As you can see, I had just rebooted the host to ensure clean environment. Thanks.

Does it work if you have
- 4.2.8 host installation and 4.2.6 additions (please attach a VM log if it does)
- 4.2.6 host installation and 4.2.8 additions (please attach a VM log if it does)
Please also provide a VM log for 4.2.6 working scenario. Do you have Aero theme working OK with 4.2.6?
Could you also create a core dump for the crash and upload it to ftp://ftp.oracle.com:/appsdev/incoming . (Note that directory is write-only for public users for security reasons).

Also please specify the name of the uploadeed core dump here, so that I can get it from the server.

Final test - back to original settings - no crash... (310.32/4.2.8/4.2.8)

Well, I may have to apologize and close this ticket. I am unable to reproduce the error. I did have to remove a few Ubuntu packages to be able to test different versions, and that may have cleaned up some settings. Also, the NVDIA compute mode had been set to exclusive, for CUDA, which may have also had an impact.
