Description
I have an iMac (2009) Intel Core Duo 1TB Hard Disk and 4Gb RAM. I am trying to use an External LITEON 12x Blu-ray Writer with VirtualBox. It doesn't appear in the list of CD/DVD devices to add to the VM when running. The description of the Blu-ray Writer from Disk Manager is:-
ATAPI eHBU212 2
It does appear in the USB devices as:-
USB3.0 External Mass Storage Device [0100]
More importantly you cannot select the External Blu-ray writer as a CD/DVD device in the First Run wizard when creating a new VM. This has the effect of stopping the loading of OS'es on CD/DVD in VirtualBox.
Even without the First Run Wizard you cannot then select it as a drive in the VM window using the "Devices" tab, and thus can't select it as a boot device. My internal CD/DVD drive has started to scratch disks, and I have had it repaired twice and it still does it!
Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux 12.04 can both see and use the drive, however without VirtualBox recognising it I can't use it to load Operating Systems.
The First Run wizard just gives the choice of the internal drive as an option to load a physical CD/DVD.
I am running MAC OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. and VirtaulBox 4.1.18 r78361.
Pleas reopen if this is still relevant with recent VirtualBox release.
