Shared Folders Fail Permissions on Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit Guest On VB 4.1.18 On Win7 AMD64 bit Host

Description
Guest Additions seemed to install per instructions, the shared folder setup functioned as directed, and the named shared folder appears under the Ubuntu media folder; but this folder fails to open, throwing a permissions denial. No reads or writes or lists function at all in the guest on the shared directory, neither in a file manager nor in a terminal window.
