Hello Richard. Please use 4503 for reporting translation issues rather than opening a new ticket. That said... yes this is wrong in the original text. That shouldn't prevent you from translating it correctly, though it may cause some hiccups when I correct it.

Note that when I open VirtualBox_nl.ts in Linguist it correctly asks me for singular and plural.

I looked at that again - are you sure it is wrong? The sentence needs to be translated differently for different grammatical numbers, but the number itself is not supposed to appear in the sentence, hence the missing %n marker.

Yep, Qt Linguist gives me an error warning saying:

"Translation does not contain the necessary %n place marker"

I do get the single/plural lines to translate, it just doesn't validate

How can i upload the reviewed translation files btw? i don't see an attachmet option at ticket 2018?

Yes, you are right that that could be problematic (e.g. the comma-separated list will not look right in Arabic if someone ever updates our Arabic translation). Any suggestions for how to improve the source text?

Maybe changing the string into:

"There are %n virtual machine(s), <b>%1</b>, currently in a saved state.[...]"

or

"%n virtual machine(s), <b>%1</b>, currently in a saved state.[...]"

avoiding 'are'/'is' issue, and

with a %n count on the comma-separated list, and still honoring listing of the names? (probably tackles Qt Linguist validation error)

Don't now how if that tackles the listing in Arabic though, not an expert on that soz. Maybe sub-menu (click on 'Show list') for another window with list, instead of <b>%1</b>?

regards Richard

I changed this to "<p>The %n following virtual machine(s) are currently in a saved state: <b>%1</b></p><p>If you continue the runtime state of the exported machine(s) will be discarded. The other machine(s) will not be changed.</p>". I also changed the code not to put commas between the machine names. Not yet in 4.1. It won't be very nice in the singular ("The following 1 machine is currently..."), but so be it.

I have manually (well, using sed) changed all translation files to re-use the old translation where there was one. So this change will not require anyone to make changes to their translation if it was already complete before.
