I have exactly the same problem and also know the same situation on at least 1 other notebook too.

Which Linux distribution is that? Ubuntu Gutsy? Did you read the hints for USB on Gutsy on ​http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/User_FAQ?

yeap, ubuntu gutsy.

i read the user faq and it seems that it works. "it seems" cuz it doesn't recognize pendrives or any other usb tool, but now windows recognize a new usb driver and it was installed. i'm reading the user manual in order to make it work, but -as i said before- windows has recognized the usb.

i'll keep you informed.

You should check your usbfs settings as hinted by the error message. Seems like you are not allowed to capture the device.
