Did you try previous versions of VirtualBox? You could install the fedora 7 binary of 1.5.2 on Fedora 8 as well.

comment:2 by sjstafford, 16 years ago

This same problem happened with VirtualBox 1.5.2 on Fedora 8 also. VB 1.5.2 worked fine on Fedora 7 and was very reliable. This started when I moved up to Fedora 8.

Looks like there is a file location that is hard coded into the app, that does not exist.

I had this problem posted on the forum for quite some time with no response, that's why I entered it as a bug.

I would move back to 1.5.2 if it didn't have this same bug, but I would loose sound.

Which kernel are you using, 2.6.23.8?

comment:4 by sjstafford, 16 years ago

This has happened with all of the Fedora 8 kernels. I downloaded and installed Fedora 8 on the second day of release. My current kernel is 2.6.23.9-85.fc8-x86_64, previous was 2.6.23.8-63.fc8-x86_64 ... and I believe there were 2 previous to these.

Another thing. The Windows XP Pro guest has yet to crash while I have been actively working in the guest. Only when I move off of the guest and into another workspace. The time to fail is not consistent also, and I have found no consistent thing or action that causes the crash.
