I've just done the following commit which implements the API changes
documented in those commits for the vboxguest driver version I'm
working on:

https://github.com/jwrdegoede/vboxguest/commit/5a32bf6d3ef864f235d174533f4ee0d5914cf97c

I'm happy to report that this results in a nice cleanup and with the
5.1.24 guest-additions seamless-mode still works fine.
