Windows 7 guest hangs when aero is enabled
Reported by: | Isaac Salsberg | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | WDDM | Version: | VirtualBox 4.1.6 |
Keywords: | aero cpu | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Windows | Host type: | Mac OS X |
Description (last modified by )
Windows 7 guest crashes when aero is enabled.
When changing applications thru the task bar with aero enabled, the guest hangs and the host shows 100% of cpu usage. After a few seconds, the virtual machine crashes and the host's cpu usage goes back to normal.
This only happens when aero is enabled. With aero turned off, the virtual machine works fine, even though the WDDM video driver is installed.

By "Changing applications thru the task bar" I ment opening 4 different applications, 2 windows explorer, 1 IE, 1 Fire Fox, 1 SQL Server Management Studio. Then, hovering the mouse on the task bar over each task (with aero enabled), Windows 7 shows small windows of each application. I random selected each application by clicking on the small windows many times, and after a while, the Virtual Machine used 100% of the host's cpu and then crashed. See attached file VBox.log.1. When I restarted the Windows 7 guest, it asked to start repairing the installation.
With The file VBox.log.2, I just opened all the 4 applications specified above almost simultaneously (one after the other), without waiting for one to completely start, and the guest crashed and Virtual Box showed the status "Aborted" for that guest.
