Description (last modified by )
Well, what should i say - That headline is the essence.
Some Details: Running the official VirtualBox 1.5.2 binaries from innotek on an Ubuntu 7.10 Linux ("Gutsy Gibbon"), with installed guest additions, trying to use ActiveSync 4.5, which has successfully been installed into the VM running Windows XP Pro SP2. When i attach my WindowsMobile-Device to the USB port,it produces some output into the Linux syslog, but won't be recognized in the Windows VM. I just can't connect, although ActiveSync tells me that USB is generally speaking available. It just can't see the WinMobile-Device.
I also tried to stop Linux from using the device automagically by disabling the loading o the rndis_host kernel module, but to no avail. I also searched the web and found a line whic seemingly enables /proc/bus/usb access for hald, and as far my italian serves me the original author was successful with that - but not me :(
Here's the line:
# added for Virtualbox to work with Activesync unter virtualized WinXP none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=46,devmode=664 0 0
Any hints on this one?
Thanks for your great work, and pls don't hesitate to contact me in case you want me to provide additional informations - I'll be happy to help out if I can.
Best regard,
Miyamoto

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
You don't provide a whole lot of details, so I'm not sure if you have the same problem that I have or not. However, from your description, it sounds likely.
Vbox (or the Linux Kernel) seem to have some bug(s) related to certain Windows Mobile PDAs. I have an HTC Mogul (otherwise known as the PPC-6800). This device, as it comes from the factory, absolutely will not work at all inside my XP Guest.
To make it work I have to make one setting change on the PDA itself. Go to Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC. UNCHECK the box that says "Enable advanced network functionality". My device sometimes hangs trying to apply this setting.. if so use the soft reset hardware button, then try again.
This setting totally changes how the device behaves on the USB bus.. it appears to be a totally different device with different USB IDs, etc, and it uses different protocols to communicate with the Host Adapter.
Once this change is made reconnect your device to your PC, and enable it in the Guest. It should now be recognized and work just fine with ActiveSync.
This issues really does need to be resolved somehow, as I actually want to be able to use the "advanced network functionality" that my PDA has to offer.
