Linux installation fails

tried installing several different version of ubuntu (10.04, minimal, 11.10, 386 and amd64) in virtualbox but it fails at the select and install software stage of the linux installer. Perhaps it has something Lion 10.7.2 update

Could you provide some more information? What fails exactly, does the VM crash or what?

The install stops with a message saying installation failed. I noticed that it happened when the packages were being updated. This happens with every version of linux.
This is the error message I got (in the image), am not sure its related to the rest of that blog post http://www.swagpile.com/2011/05/26/random-stuff-ubuntu-minimal-expert-install-issues/
Like I said, this failed on several different versions of ubuntu running in virtualboxes on Lion and snow leopard. I also tried it with the last stable version of virtualbox 4.0.x

I've attached the log file when trying to do a fresh install. It failed installation on windows with the same message as above. But let me continue and retry the installation. On the mac attampting to continue fails

Nothing interesting in that log file. Please reopen if still relevant with VBox 4.2.12.

I've since verified the problem on another mac (snow leopard)
