usb support hangs usb mouse from host and guest

Reported by: Joe Ryals Owned by:
Component: USB Version: VirtualBox 4.1.2
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Windows

Description

running 4.1.2 with same version of extension kit, when I plug in a usb device but I want it seen by host instead of taken by guest, I right click on the usb activity button and then deselect the usb device just plugged in, but as soon as I do that, the mouse (usb device) hangs and I have to log off my host to get mouse control back. This is the first time I have ever seen this issue and I been using vbox since early 2 days. I did not find this listed in the forums / current tickets. I am not sure if this should go under USB support or guest extensions (where the USB support is) I just recently upgraded from a 4.0 version

I have the same problem in my school. I have a pool of 100 machines running VBOX 4.1.2 on Windows 7 and Windows vista. When I want to connect any pendrive or any usb device, both usb ports on the host side hangs. In my case, mice and keyboards are down. If I log off the guest machine, the controls came back. I've made some tests on 20 machines from the pool, with and without admin rights, on Windows 7 entreprise, on vista enterprise with the same error. VBox 4.1.2 with same extension kit version.

Same here. When I'm pluggin in USB devices that will be catched by the host Win 7 Prof. 64 bit. then all USB ports hangs. Even a PS/2 mouse isn't working anymore, but ive 2 mice connected one usb one ps2 but both stops working after the USB bug hits. To recover I need to stop all running virtual boxes and logoff from the current windows session in the host. Sometimes I can recover by plugging in the device that causes the crash again in the same usb port as it crashed when no virtual box is running. But this re-plug after all VMs are down fixing method does not always working...

After the Update to the new Version 4.1.4 this problem seems much better/away. I had once a hang on USB-Subsystem after upgrading to 4.1.4 but it was before I restarted the machine (host). Once the host was restarted the usb didnt hang forever anymore. After a few seconds of hanging of the mouse it automatically resumed operation. It was not necessary to close all VMs and VirtualBox itself or to logoff/reboot the host as it was necessary with 4.1.2.

When I use the latest version of VBOX (4.1.8), the problem still there. Both USB slots form host and guest stop working.
