Host suspend to ram crash after loading vboxdrv kernel module

Reported by: Ju1i3n Owned by:

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

If I load the vboxdrv kernel module, I won't be able to put in suspend to ram mode.

Host configuration: Gentoo, Intel U2500 (dual core), kernel 2.6.19-gentoo-r5.
Intel 945GM. (Dell D420 laptop).
VirtualBox 1.3.4

If I had never modprobe vboxdrv,

echo -n mem > /sys/power/state -- works fine.

but:

modprobe vboxdrv
rmmod vboxdrv
echo -n mem > /sys/power/state

-- System crashes (a little blinking _)

FWIW, I also have the same problem. Mine is an ASUS W7J laptop, running 2.6.20.2 SMP kernel. It's a Intel Dual Core T7200 2.0GHz. And I'm using VirtualBox 1.3.8 Debian package.

BTW I can't actually see if the kernel has panic or crashed. There's no log or anything. It's just simply not suspending. And I can do nothing with the system. It's like it's stuck there idling.

The newest SVN code seems to fix the bug for my 2.6.20 kernel.

Upgraded my kernel to 2.6.21.1 and now suspend and resume perfectly.

My system: Debian in a Dell X1 with Virtualbox 1.3.8.

Great!

My wishes now for virtualbox:

  • Clipboard between host and guest
  • Mount hard disk partition in a guest
  • Better networking
