Description

Hello everybody

I used about 30 times the fonction of snapshot and restored it and it's worked very well.

but on one virtual machine it's not working anymore when it's still working on other machines without problem (I didn't tryed to make new snapshots)

well I have a message like that when I try to restore :

Failed to restore the snapshot office installé non-activé of the virtual machine windows XP français 2.

Could not copy the state file
'/home/paz/.VirtualBox/Machines/windows XP français 2/ots/{6ea91f87-7450-4094-8f24-1c282b19a556}.sav'
to '/home/paz/.VirtualBox/Machines/windows XP français 2/ots/{62178c3c-48ef-4c03-a4b1-e4d28f9656d4}.sav' (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).

If I locate the file, for instace with "locate" and if I place it at the requested file it's working. I used to do it with every snapshot that I had. I used to place it in the folder "hots" it's like it's it loosed a leter. From shots to hots. Now it's loosed a leter more, from hots to ots...

weird bug, isn't.

I wanted to erase everything and comeback to virtualbox 3.2.*

but I though it's was better for the comunity to make a bug report because I didn't find any bug report who was related to my problem.

Thanks for reading me, I hope it's could be usefull for improve virtualbox.

perhaps it's come from the fact that I use a french letter "ç" It's probably coded in two bytes in UTF-8 perhaps the bug come from that

what do you think about that ?

Summary: virtualbox doesn't found files for restore snapshotsvirtualbox doesn't found files for restore snapshots => Fixed in SVN

Thanks for the report and for the analysis! The next maintenance release will contain the fix.

To make your VM bootable again you must

  1. Terminate the GUI and all VMs
  2. Make sure that no VBoxSVC daemon is running
  3. Edit all machine files (.vbox) manually and search for words like 'apshots' or 'pshots' (Snapshots with one or more leading letter). Change all occurrences to 'Snapshots'.
  4. Do the same for the snapshots folder of each VM (rename the directory name)
  5. Start the GUI

hello

thank for your answser

When will be the next maintenance release? did I need to copile it myself for have the bug corrected?

Do you find the bug because of my report? did it was because of the special charater?

The next maintenance release will be released soon. When the release is out, either use the precompiled binaries or compile VirtualBox yourself. And yes, as I wrote, we found the bug. Yes, it was because UTF8 characters weren't correctly handled at one place.
