3.2.6 segfaults in seamless mode

Reported by: Aaron Owned by:
Component: GUI/seamless Version: VirtualBox 3.2.6
Keywords: crash, segfault, seamless mode Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description

I am still getting seamless mode crashes. With or without 2d and 3d. This only seems to happen in seamless mode.

Version: 3.2.6 (release) Host: Ubuntu 10.04, 64 bit Guest: Windows XP Pro, SP3, 32bit

Settings: 768mb memory 1 processor AMD-V Enabled: (My processor does have AMD-V) Nested paging: Enabled Video memory: 128mb 3d acceleration: Disabled 2d acceleration: Enabled (doesn't matter tho, happens with either) Remote display: Disabled

Whenever the process has been running for a few hours, it will spontaneously crash. The vbox control process stays open, but emulator process dies. The menu item says "Aborted" rather than powered off.

I'll attach the log, but it's useless. There's nothing in there about the crash. I checked dmesg and got:

[343036.419020] VirtualBox[16035]: segfault at 21 ip 00007fe8115c7b61 sp 00007fff00b60ad0 error 4 in VirtualBox.so[7fe8114a7000+46d000]

[380203.293818] VirtualBox[4107]: segfault at 21 ip 00007fbaa6321b61 sp 00007fffbfc0c2d0 error 4 in VirtualBox.so[7fbaa6201000+46d000]

[467442.780319] VirtualBox[3626]: segfault at 1 ip 00007fdce39ebb61 sp 00007fffaea0f640 error 4 in VirtualBox.so[7fdce38cb000+46d000]

Those are 3 different crashes. Different process IDs, but the segfault happens in the same spot.

I got same problem, same host and guest config, also run in seamless mode. XP guest crash (segfault) on running java applet(IBM server's RSA) mostly. I tried different JRE versions 1.6.0_[1,2,3,5,7], i hadn't try latest JRE 1.6.0_20, b'cas it is not work on RSA.

Here are few line grep from /var/log/message

Sorry, but the lines from /var/log/messages don't help at all. We would need to have access to a core dump of such a crashed VM session.

comment:3 by Aaron, 14 years ago

This system needs to remain secure and posting a core dump could expose potentially expose memory contents. That will not be possible here.

comment:4 by Gordon, 14 years ago

Sorry that i can't provide corp dump. I have same situation, my guest is one of my desktop in corporation.

comment:5 by Frank Mehnert, 13 years ago

It is correct that the core dump contains the content of the running process (not of other processes on the host of course). But I just want to mention that I don't expect you to post the core dump here but you could upload it to a dedicated FTP server.
