#7036 new defect

"Check for update" turned on, automatic vm start, when update available, access blocked

Reported by: vlatko Owned by:
Component: VM control Version: VirtualBox 3.2.2
Keywords: update, auto start Cc:

Description

Hi,

a very strange "error". Situation:

  • automatic checking for updates once a week is turned on
  • vm is started automatically from batch with vboxmanage StartVM
  • vm was restoring from Saved State, vm restored correctly
  • VirtualBox update occurred

All started well, and there was a modal dialog notifying that there is an update, but wherever I tried to click, on OK button in dialog or inside the vm, Windows produce a sound "you can't click there". The vm was also not visible in Alt+Tab list.

The only way to was to force Save State with ControlVM.

Confirmed on VBox 3.2.8 r64453, host Win7 Guest Ubuntu, and had been experiencing the same for the last few releases.

Tried the workaround above (controlvm savestate), text progress bar goes to 100% and the vboxmanage process finishes, but the vm does not terminate. (vm goes grey like normal save state, but it just doesn't turn off). Killing the process seems to discard the saved state.

On restarting the vm (fresh after killing the vm, not loading savestate) via vboxmanqage, modal dialog is clickable during the oracle splash screen.
