Same thing here.

Host: Mac Pro 2008 w/ 8 Cores OS X 10.6.4 w/ x86_64 kernel VirtualBox 3.2.6

Guests that always have 100% CPU usage, even when totally idle OS X 10.6.4 (32 and 64 bit) OS X 10.5.8

Guests that do not have 100% CPU usage when totally idle: Linux Mint 9 (64 bit) Windows 7 (64 bit)

Given that the OS X guests peg one CPU at 100% whenever they are active it is like having an extra 60 W light bulb on in terms of power consumption.

  • Priority changed from critical to major
  • Version changed from VirtualBox 3.2.0 to VirtualBox 3.2.6

This is a known problem and documented in the manual.

Replying to grahamperrin:

The best course of action is to delete the power management kernel extensions mentioned in the forum thread. I don't think VBox can really do anything to help out in this case until (or if) host additions are created for OS X.
