unable to resume/poweroff/whatever after saving state operation failed

Description (last modified by aeichner)

Hello, i was closing the win XP guest by saving the machine state. The operation failed since there was not enough space on the host filesystem. The machine gui was grayed out (as if it was paused). I cleaned up some GBs of space but then i was/am unable either to resume the machine or to save its state or to pause it or to poweroff it. I tried both from gui and from VBoxManage command line. I tried discarding the state as well but to no avail. I keep getting errors about wrong machine state, paused and saving.
