Unable to install current versions of Linux

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

Unable to install Fedora 10 or SuSE 11.2 (also applies to 11.3 Milestone 1). Randomly locks up during installer. On the rare occasion the installer finishes, it will crash on boot. Fedora will die with an Int 18h error immediately, whereas SuSE will crash randomly somewhere in the boot process. This problem has existed for awhile, goes back to at least 3.0.10. Here's a log of one of the failed SuSE installation attempts under VBox 3.1.4 Beta 2 (same thing happens in stable, just this is the log I have saved, can generate more if you need them):

Reducing the guest cpu count to 1 helps?

comment:4 by Brian Knoblauch, 14 years ago

Fails exactly the same way with CPU count of 1 or 2. RAM assigned makes no difference either. Using the supplied defaults with no changes (other than mounting the ISO) results in same failure. Attempting as first thing after restart of host machine also makes no difference.
