DirectDraw support incomplete -> retry with 1.5.2

Description

Hi.

Since v1.5.0 vbox supports DirectDraw, according to the changelog. I've installed Windows 2000 Professional with the Guest Additions v1.5.0. dxdiag tells me that DirectDraw support is available, but the tests fail. Also, the game Age of Empires 2 reports a broken graphics system.

Might be a win2k thing only. Will check later.

WinXP is affected too.

Bug verified. Diablo 1 game says that it cannot initialize DirectDraw device. But I don't know the color-mode of this game.

Host: WinXP SP2 32-bit (DirectX 9.0c), nVdia GeForce 6600GT (drivers 84.21 - this are last drivers which are good for 6600GT, newest drivers are not good).

BTW: same goes for DOSbox 0.7x that fails to start with DirectDraw backend on VBox 1.5.0.

From 619:

I updated the GuestAdditions? to 1.5.0. When I started to play Tropico, the screen went black. Even though I could not see anything, I could move my mouse around and select items (based upon sounds). This may be related to DirectDraw? in 1.5.0. I rolled back the video driver to 1.4.0 and everything worked again, without the Seamless feature.

I've got the same problem, black screen with DirectDraw games, but sound is playing.

The dxdiag tests fail, sometimes something is visible there but very buggy

Guest Additions 1.5.0 are installed and Seamless window mode works

Host: Arch-Linux 2.6.22

Guest: Windows XP Professional

I also have the problems with Direct Draw. Example: I run my Java Swing application in virtual Windows XP and hold on mouse cursor on button - tooltip shows and mouse cursor disappears - I have to move mouse away from main window to see cursor again. When I disable graphics acceleration in screen properties everything works fine (It also works on normal XP and VMware so I sure it's some problem with direct draw, not my app). Direct draw tests fails too.

I use Virtual Box 1.5.0 and Windows XP with installed Guest Additions (1.5.0) on Arch Linux (kernel 2.6.22).

Same problem here:

DxDiag's DirectDraw test fails.

I use VirtualBox 1.5.0, Guest: Windows XP SP2 with latest updates and installed gueat additions for 1.5.0, Host: openSUSE 10.2, System: Core 2 Duo, ATI X1400 with latest Linux drivers

Maybe it's not only related to DirectDraw or DirectX. I have the exact behaviour as reported by sandervl73 and others, but with a non directx application. It's a graphic manipulation program which uses GDI+. The image area remains grey and is redrawed once in a while when clicking on different parts of the UI. It works normally with addons 1.4.

Try again with 1.5.2 please.

1.5.2 fixed, host ubuntu feisty, guest winxpsp2, tested with laptop and desktop pc, gfx cards intel 945 and ati radeon 9550, played age of empires 2 and command and conquer, both works, dxdiag also works.

1.5.2 works for me as well. I have an nVidia GeForce Go card on my laptop and played Tropico just fine.

It works now. Thank You very much for this. Now I can finally play some old games.

Thank You
