Direct 3D fails with 'could not find desired depth/stencil' message

Description
I tried to load the game Wizard 101 in a Vista Business 32 bit guest on a Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit host. dxdiag says directx is working properly, but the game will not load. I receive an error message that says that Direct3D could not find the desired depth/stencil format. I have attached the log.
