Description
On Windows Vista as host and Ubuntu 9.10 KarmicKoala as guest, with VBox PUEL 2.0.12, Guest Additions 3.0 have to be reinstalled after Ubuntu performs updates. Also, even after reinstalling Guest Additions, the host key (CTRL right) won't work: no use of Host+F, Host+L, etc. possible.

I have to reinstall Guest Additions in order to get Guest Additions features such as folder sharing and mouse integration to work after an Ubuntu update. That's why I say it must be reinstalled.
I didn't have the dkms package installed. I installed it and will post back after a few Ubuntu upgrades to comment on any problems... or no problem!

With DKMS installed the update should work automatically.

Hello, after I installed the dkms package, everything went right for months. I performed the suggested updates yesterday in Ubuntu and this morning, I had to reinstall Guest Additions again. Any idea?

Also, the VBox GUI crashes in Vista 50 percent of the time when I launch the virtual machine.

Please reopen if still relevant with VBox 4.0.4.
Why do you think that the guest additions must be re-installed? And do you have the dkms package installed in the guest?
