#5247 closed defect (obsolete)
Putting host (OS X) in standby causes guest (Ubuntu) to hang
Reported by: | Andrew Clegg | Owned by: | |
---|---|---|---|
Component: | other | Version: | VirtualBox 3.0.8 |
Keywords: | standby | Cc: | |
Guest type: | Linux | Host type: | Mac OS X |
Description (last modified by )
Host: MacBookPro3,1 Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167) Guest: Ubuntu 9.04 fully updated + guest additions VirtualBox 3.5.8 r53138
After closing my MacBook for standby, then reopening it, the guest is completely frozen.
The log shows the VM going from RUNNING to SUSPENDED and back again.
However there's no response from the actual guest window, and I can't ssh into it.
Despite this, Activity Monitor shows the VM to be using close to 100% CPU of one core.
When closing the guest window, the guest ignores the shutdown signal and I have to power it off instead.

Two more observations:
- Pausing and resuming the VM manually works fine, but if I do a manual pause->host standby->host wake-up->manual resume, it hangs as described above.
- When in the hung state, reset doesn't do anything, and I have to power off the guest completely to restart it.
