Installation of Openserver 5.0.7 hangs using SCSI adapter
Reported by: | Ciro Iriarte | Owned by: | |

Component: | virtual disk | Version: | VirtualBox 3.0.6 |

Description (last modified by )
Preamble:
The latest and greatest SCSI drivers for BusLogic and LSILogic don't find any SCSI adapter on VBox 3.0.6:
ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/507/drivers/blc_3.05.1 ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/507/drivers/lsil_1.03.28
After a lot of searching found a obscure BusLogic driver that works: http://ftp.isu.edu.tw/pub/Hardware/mylex/multimaster/mmunix.exe
The issue: The installer for SCO Openserver 5.0.7 finds the SCSI adapter but hangs calling hdconfig, which I assume does disk configuration tasks (in this case, the SCSI disk).

Both links from ftp.sco.com include a floppy image for each driver and a txt file explaining how to use them. Basically you should tell the installer's boot loader to link the driver provided by floppy.
For Buslogic: defbootstr link=blc
For LSI: defbootstr link=lsil
If it works, the adapter should be listed in the device list given before starting the installation assistant.

Could you please try this again with VirtualBox 3.1.6 (or later, if available by the time you get to it)? There's a fair chance the problem has been fixed.

The problem was probably fixed for the LSI Logic adapter, but not the BusLogic adapter (which may be irrelevant; there's no advantage to using the BusLogic emulation if the guest supports the LSI Logic adapter).

Closing, please reopen if still relevant with the latest VirtualBox release.
Installation attempt, BusLogic adapter was detected.
