Please attach the file /var/log/vboxadd-install.log after you installed the VBox 3.0.6 additions.

same problem in 3.0.8 reinstall 3.0.4 and re-run the add on install script and problem goes away.

(in my last message, there is a a "." after "3.0.8". :-) I typed in two lines. But resulted in one line....)

I've noticed the same problem on my Ubuntu VMs that I installed from scratch since 3.0.6. I managed to track down the problem. If you don't have /usr/lib/dri, then the symbolic link is not created. Creating that folder and running the installer again makes it work again. Haven't got GLX with 3.0.6+ though. Glxgears complains about missing GLX extension.

Regarding the missing directory: Isn't the /usr/lib/dri directory created by the libgl1-mesa-dri package and isn't that package required to get direct rendering support?

In that case it should be noted in the GA installer that the directory is not found and 3D will not work until the package is installed. The folder with the symlink should still be created by the script so you don't need to install the GA again, only to get the symlink for 3D.
